KINGSBURY AVENUE, ST ALBANS.
We were commissioned to look at rationalising the layout of a 'bottom heavy' 1970's house.
The house itself sits in the St Albans conservation area on a prominent site, and is out of scale and proportion to the surrounding period terraced houses.
The design looks to equal out the portions of the house and reorientate the house so as to engage with the street and rear garden.
The use of conspicuous sliding doors gives the client flexible use of the whole ground floor as a single space or the option to
have a number of different room configurations.
The 2 storey extension will house 2 further bedrooms with en suites and a new enlarged kitchen and dining space at ground floor. The back of the house will open at different levels in the garden.
The enlargement of windows and new rooflights bring in much needed natural light and limits views outwards instead directly views of the sky.
Planning permission and conservation area consent granted.
